'Discovered' by Mike Fay during his 2001 Megatransect, Langoue Bai, a marshy clearing set in the forests of Ivindo NP, has since been the focus of long-term elephant and gorilla monitoring. The Langoue Field Station, based nearby, is run by the Wildlife Conservation Society, who ran a pilot tourism project there between 2001-2008. Now, their presence ensures the protection and long-term monitoring of the sensitive bai ecosystem and its mammal populations, and WCS is working with ANPN to support the development of tourism at the site. The site hosts a limited number of research projects, and is one of three sites in Gabon for Oxford University's Global Ecological Monitoring project, which is run in Gabon through a partnership with ANPN.
